The Post Office and other things I hate

I know this topic might be tiresome, otherwise there wouldn't be an expression, "going postal" to describe someone who loses it and goes on a killing spree, but I have recently discovered that I may join that huge majority of Americans who dislike the USPS. My reason is simple.... I was supposed to send my mother for the key to the mailbox so that she could get my mail while I was away and I didn't put enough stamps on it. Now, I have no idea where it is or what I can do to find it. I talked to my post office, my mom talked to hers and they were no help. They said that because there weren't enough stamps it might be in dead mail in Michigan. WHAT?? I didn't pay enough to send it 200 miles so they send my mail thousands of miles away?? At present I am hopeless because my checks go to that mailbox. No spending money for me, I guess.

#17 on google trends?

The GHB drug came in 17th on google's most searched trends of today. Knowing that GHB is aka the date rape drug this scares me a little. These trends are always a little confusing and honestly reveal too much about my fellow man. Then again, # 1 was something I have never heard of: diggy simmons' blog...

I guess I will check it out... I usually don't get much pleasure in being a follower, but in this case I am kind of glad I did. This blog is pretty funny. - and I mean in a Haha way.

basically I am seriously bored right now and looking for things to entertain me. Youtube usually helps with boredom, but its been getting kind of lame with all those copyright enforcers concerning music.

Psyched Soccer

First off...
The United States beat Brazil in the Preliminary for the World Cup!

Socccccerrrrr!

I am getting kind of agitated as July approaches and I am very uncertain on how I should be preparing. I am looking for my required reading list... I have to read some old greek book. I think I read that in the 6th grade, or was that the Odyssey? I read a lot of greek things when I was younger because I was obsessed with the greek myths. My favorite story was the story of Eros and Pscyche because it was the most romantic and had the happiest ending of any of the stories I heard.

Eros and Psyche
Basically, Psyche is a beautiful girl and all the men around fall in love with her. Therefore, Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, gets jealous. She sends her son, Eros aka Cupid, to make Psyche fall in love with some horrible beast. Instead, he falls in love with her. He takes her away to this beautiful island and only visits her at night so that she can't see him. She is very lonely during the day and so she begs him to let her sisters visit. He permits her sisters to come see her, but her sisters get really jealous of her. They start asking her tons of questions that make her doubt her husband, "Why does her keep you here?" "Why does he not let you see his face?" "Is he a monster?".
They convince her that she is being kept by some creature against her will and make her take a dagger into her bedroom. When Eros arrives and comes near her, she puts the dagger down because she can't do it, but he sees it anyway. Hurt, he leaves, but first he reveals himself to her. She spends her time walking the earth searching for him. Finally, she begs Aphrodite for help and Aphrodite sends her on a quest of sorts. (A still hates P and wants her to fail.) After doing random tasks like getting golden wool and retrieving a box from the underworld, Psyche opens a box that supposedly contained beauty (seriously?) and finds a deep sleep instead. Eros, who by this time has forgiven her and still loves her, flies to her rescue. He wipes the sleep from her eyes and declares to Zeus that he intends to marry her. Zeus makes her immortal and they live happily ever after.
YAY! greek Gods are so jealous--- more so than the cast of Gossip Girl. maybe I will write Gossip Gods.

Mars and Summers, V and B

It occured to me while I was using my break to watch reruns of Veronica Mars, that she reminded me a lot of someone (No, not me... although now that you mention it) She reminds me a lot of another plucky and strong blonde girl cerca 5'2". Buffy and Veronica are very similar in a few ways.
  1. They have one parent - this makes the show more interesting, makes it easier for the teens to have free reign and let's face it, there's one less casting call.
  2. They are both very special. Where Buffy is the chosen one, Veronica has super sleuthing brains. Duh, that's why the Universe, or atleast their show revolves around them. (well, that and the fact that its named after them)
  3. They both have very good senses of humor and get atleast one joke in every scene. Hey- that's what keeps the show light and reminds you this is for teens, not old ladies watching Lifetime or soap operas.
  4. The lovers- The big three, composed of two unstable bad boys Logan/Spike or Duncan/Angel or vise versa... I am not quite sure which is which because somehow I fell in love with Angel/Buffy and will always have a hard time letting go. Duncan and Angel both fathered illegitamate children and had the mother die in childbirth so.... Then there is the nice and normal guy (sorta... give it time) Riley and Piz. Good looking and charming and can be counted on to do normal things. (until they get too insecure)
  5. They have friends-
  • Mac= Willow (the early days)
  • Wallace=Xander (except, thank god Wallace never mopes especially not about Veronica)
  • Madison= Cordelia (except Cordelia isn't really such a Bitch)
  • Keith=Giles (father figures and go-to guys for guidance)
  • Jackie=Anya (dating main characters best friens. reformed bad girl)
  • evil demon mayors (child molesting or more litterally unleashing demons)
I feel bad about not finding a guy to parallel Dick Casablancas, but there are a couple characters in the background that have some of his qualities.
Then, there are the other various people who float in and out as love interests and bad guys.

The shows have season-long arcs with mega bad guys as well as individual episodes where the beloved blonde kicks small time butt and saves the day. They are both outcasts, but not really because they are badass and hot and where at one time cheerleaders.

They live in fake towns in California that have obvious connotations because of the places surrounding them. Neptune is practically New Port beach and Sunnydale is North and in the Valley.

The most important thing they have in common is that I love them and so do other girls my age because they remind us independent butt-kicking girls are awesome and even though they worry about what everyone else thinks, they don't let that fact control their lives. In fact, these tiny sassy blondes can save the day.

Scholarships Tips

Paying for college is a bitch. Unless you have a trust fund that kicks in when you turn 18 or you are part of that elite that has $50,000 a year to spare, it would probably be nice to have some help paying for college, or atleast trimming the fat when it comes to expenditures. Besides booking your flights early and living on Ramen for a while, you may think there is not much you can do. BUT-- there is. I managed to scrounge enough to afford an out of state private school with divorced and uninterested parents. Here are the steps I took and am taking.
Textbooks can cost up to $2000 a year and they are books you might never want to see again (like my Spanish II text book). Here are some places where you can get them cheap and spend your money on a new rug for your room or stereo instead--- (don't forget to compare prices at all the different websites)
1.Save 65 - 85% a Year on Textbooks
2.Bookbyte.com – serving students with discounted textbooks nationwide.

3. Click to save up to 60% on used books

I actually do not have to work next year because of the scholarships I obtained. The money you earn comes right out of the work/study requirement that most colleges have for financial aid. One of the scholarships I got, I found out about online. A secret tip is-- the more you have to do for a scholarship, the more likely you are to get it. And don't discount the small ones (even the $300 scholarships matter) Here are some places to start. I haven't tried all of these, but I did try fastweb and won $1000 and the others are just some I have heard of.
1.Need money for college? Use FastWeb's free scholarship search to find information on more than 600,000 scholarships!

2. Want to save time and avoid scams while searching for customized scholarship information? Let the Scholarship Experts help now!

3.$10,000 Scholarship for any School or Education Program

If all else fails, It is important to get a student loan and to make sure that loan is a fixed rate under 8% if possible. Beware of loans that have low numbers like 2% interest at a variable rate because they can start increasing your interest as inflation hits. Here's a place you can check out loans-
1. Let SimpleTuition find the right student loan for you.

College is one of the biggest investments a person can make. Its important to do the research.

Clear Skies

Shop skin care and cosmetics online. Get free shipping and samples. Award winning service

I've always longed for flawless skin. Sadly, the best I can do is use tons of expensive products to keep it under control and cosmetics to cover up the signs. Stress is my worst enemy, but I also did some research and found some info on how food and other factors contribute.

1. Iodized salt= bad
2. grease (duh)=bad
3. touching my face and having hair in my face=BAD
4. Nonfat yogurt plain= good and healthy
5. Exfoliating= bad
6. Really hot showers= bad (rinse with cold)
7. Certain fruits such as pineapple or too much vinegar may aggravate your skin if you are sensitive like I am.
8. Changing your habits drastically. Moving elevation can even cause your skin's needs to change

no more. I am now on a new skin medication and have cut down on the cover up since during summer I see less people.

My Movie Excitement

I am really excited for the Veronica Mars movie and have some suggestions:

1. Change it for the big screen, but don't make it a Veronica Mars saves the World deal.

2. New guy. I loved various romances on the show, but after all this time, I feel like a movie and Veronica need a hot new guy... I have some ideas, but I won't say.

3. No FBI stuff.

4. No cramming characters into the movie just because they were in the show. This needs to feel not forced.

5. PLEASE LET IT BE GREAT!!!!

Don't ask me....

So, I might be wrong, but I think it used to be that professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, heck-- even accountants and mechanics had to have some sort of people skills because they had clients or patients. You would see them face to face and more importantly you would know them. Then again, they charged you an arm and a leg. Now, there are all sorts of new ways this is changing...
I saw this the other day-

Ask A Doctor Online Now.

Get an Answer ASAP.

11 Doctors Are Online!

Medical.JustAnswer.com

I thought to myself... I am gen Y and trying to adapt to the fast paced world while at the same time trying to find a job that I know I can do for 40 years without becoming obsolete. So, I did some brainstorming.
1. How is the way we seek help changing?
answer: we type in our query instead of complaining in an office. we get immediate response, but we forfeit the face to face time and the trust.
2. What does it cost us?
answer: less in time and money, but again, there is only so much a computer and website can do...
3. Is this good or bad?
answer: good in general because hospitals and courtrooms and autoshops etc. will be less congested with people who could really just figure their problem out themselves. Bad because a lot of these professionals make a living over charging on the small stuff. Also bad because some people are idiots and can even mess up something when they have a manual.

So what do I think?
I can't speak for all teens, but it is nice to be able to google that rash you find on your leg and discover that its poison oak without needing to risk catching a real disease in a waiting room. Its also nice to get legal advice without paying a lawyer $300. Its bad to see hypochondriacs addicted to the computer and learning way too many names of viruses, but hey- that's their problem.

Job interview

Today is my first real job interview. I am trying to get hired as a line cook. I don't exactly know what that is... I like to cook? I got a lot of advice on what to do and I would like to share it.

1. When asked a question to which you reply "no" always follow up with something positive. For example, when asked, "do you have prior experience as a line cook?" say something like, "No, but I am very interested in learning."

2. Bring a resume! make sure it has elaboration on your prior job experience and some references (people who will say nice things about you)

3. Make sure you are clean and pressed. Nice shoes, nice skirt, blouse, hair, makeup.

4. Exude confidence and warmth. No one wants a cold fish or a shrinking violet

5. Look the interviewer in the eyes.

6. Don't bring your mother (or if you do... hide her)

7. make sure you are well rested and sharp so you don't say anything stupid.

I am going to stop at 7 points. I am too nervous to continue thinking about this.

So a friend of mine facebooked me the other day to tell me she just got her pottery barn bed spread for college and asked me if I knew where to get XL twin sheets. College dorm beds are the most awkward size and its hard to find nice sheets. Look online and see the different options. I got organic blue Egyptian cotton sheets and I would highly recommend them.

Cellu random tangent

CellphoneAccents

Okay, I am going to be honest. When I first heard of cell phone accents, I kind of thought it was a company that modified your voice when you talked through your cell phone so that you would sound like you have an accent. I am a blonde...

I may or may not have been joking. Anyway, My cell phone aka "cellu" in spanish or "handy" in german is kind of a piece of junk. I asked for a new one for my brithday but have yet to see it. To be honest, I have never had that much interest in cell phones, but that could be because mine is so sucky. I do think the Iphones are pretty awesome, but mostly for the things it has in common with the I touch. I think the Black Berry Storm is suited for my needs so I really hope I get one.
I saw this video on youtube where three phones in a triangle ring and pop popcorn which kind of freaked me out. I don't know if its legit though.

Save up to 70% on Contact Lenses plus an additional $5 off any order over $50! Enter ACLS5 in the instruction field of our order form.

So the other day my brother made me drive him all the way to my father's house. Thrid time this week! I didn't mind so much the first two times because I love exercising my driving privilege, but this time it was just for his new pair of contacts. He claims that it is impossible to find them up here in our mountain home so we haaad to go get them before we got here. Then, I did a search and found that link. Not only could we get him a ton of new contacts delivered right to our house, but we could also even get them cheaper. I could have killed him. My mother ordered some for the whole family-- except for me; I have great eye sight. I guess I can't really sympathize for his desperate need of contacts and I hope I never will so I guess I won't hold this against him...

Things that Really Annoy me

1. All the whining in the Lord of the Rings- from the screeching of those hooded figures, to Frodo's and company's "ring!!" cries, to the creepy whispers of Mordor. it almost makes the movie one big lonnnng depressor.

2. Looking for a JOb- impossible and frustrating

3. People who make comments about other people's food, like "eww. what is that?" rude!

4. Hot nights when you can't fall asleep

5. Commercials

6. Freezer burn on my Ben and jerry's

7. Mold in the Shower (more than annoys me)

8. The smell of the city bus

9. waiting in line

10. airport delays

11. reruns or clip shows when you expect a new one

12. Gangs (so lame)

13. A lot of wrapping on groceries

Use code CJLP10 to take 10% off any order at Linea Pelle

Yes I agree... to any girl in her teens without a trust fund or a penthouse on the Upper East Side, Linea Pelle is generally a little bit pricey. There are ways to get around this though. The two bags above are 25% and 40% off and using the coupon, one can get another 10% taken right off. That's not bad. Plus, when you feel that quality hanging off your arm, you are sure to feel more self confident ( I'm not shallow, its just the way humans are) I never used to understand what the deal was with handbags until I went to Italy last summer. The little boutiques with the handbags lined up so neatly made me fall in love with the shine and texture. The street merchants who sold knock offs made me sad and yet, I was almost tempted to buy one, knowing full well it was not the real thing. Its better to have the real thing at half price than a knock off from the street for less. that's just my two cents anyway (and you better pay attention- I need all the cents I can get if I want to save up for one of these bags)

Dilemma, pickle, problem

Right now we are getting ready to drive to our summer home... which means a lot of cleaning. it is pretty miserable. I spent all of last night packing my room into boxes and discovered that I have waaay too many books. I don't know what to do with them while I am at college. The amount it would cost to ship all of them is enormous and yet if I leave them here they will just sit under my bed. Besides, books in your dorm room make you look smart. I guess I will just have to buy a bunch of them cheap and have them free shipped to my dorm.

ooh. actually I just found the link on google:
Free USPS Shipping from eCampus.com

problem solved I guess. Free shipping should just be a gimme in my opinion since we are doing the company a favor by not having them ship it all the way out to us just so we can see it and then they have to rent a space to keep it.

What's up with all the Vamps?

With the new Twilight movie hype and the new season of Trueblood, I have been wondering what is up with the Vampires? I love them, most of you love them... but why? They have appeared in our movies since movies began, but they used to be more bad than good. Now, at least one of them is a protagonist.

it makes sense that there are so many robots in the movies these days: our world is increasingly irobotic. However, we are not all growing fangs, so why the return to the monsters of earlier days?

I don't really have an answer except maybe its the vegan lobby to make people understand how important it is to reject their natural impulse to feed on meat. Or else, maybe its a lesson in how we have to end our reliance on liquid fuel for the good of humanity and conserve our resources. Okay, these are a stretch.. maybe its because we all crave a bad boy trying to be good and sweet. What do all these vamps have in common?

1. Angel and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I know you all want Edward Cullen up here, but Buffy came first!) Dark, but with quirky humor
2. Edward Cullen from Twilight and Jasper (<3) and Emmet and Carlisle for that matter. dark, repressed, dramatic
3. Bill Compton (and Eric for that matter) from Trueblood. dark gentleman.

vampire diaries etc are coming...

all I can really say is... we like dark.

Why I can't clean my room

I want to say that I can't clean my room because I have too much other stuff to do, but that's not true. For the past two weeks, my life has been BORING. I have been "relaxing at home" which basically means I have not left the house unless I wanted to go to someone else's house or buy food. I feel pretty useless and lame. I need a job.
And yet, its very hard to find work in the US right now. I was always promised the land of opportunity and yet we are all the young and unemployed according to the latest statistics. For my part, I guess it could be worse. I could have just graduated college instead of high school and then every hour that I wasted at home on Facebook could be a lot more valuable. Let's face it, a high school diploma doesn't mean that much these days: I am barely qualified to work a starbucks expresso machine.

So, in the mean time, I have taken up trying to become an entrepreneur. Except, I am not really sure how you start being one-- which is the most important step. very lost right now... and very tired. I am going to cut my babble and instead give you what I am currently amazed by:

I heard this movie took 7 years to make. So, I guess if I guess I am not under any time pressure. while I am thinking, I might call up a friend and go catch the midnight showing....

Hiking

So a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a long time says we should do something. I agree; She's a good friend and I have missed her. What I don't expect is when she says, "I would invite Katie, but she hurt her ankle last weekend". Yeah- because strolling down main street is an intense sport. Except for, she doesn't mean going to a movie or shopping or out for a night on the town, she actually does mean an intense sport (well not that intense, but you do get dirty). What now has replaced the norm girlfriends' date in my home town is apparently looking your most ponytail-and-hiking-boots and going for a two hour trek up some mountain. I don't understand... I know this is the Change and Green Obama age, but seriously? shed my sundress and sandals for an old t-shirt and khaki shorts?
I always thought hiking was something parents forced kids to do with them and the dog so that they could work off their office butt and get the kids tired out. Or else, an old vegan couple would go hiking to "experience" nature. Don't get me wrong, I have been hiking many times. Usually, when I am in some place renowned for its hikes, like Catalina Island or Yosemite. There its not really my idea and I do it because its beautiful and let's face it: what else are you gonna do?
I finally realized that the teenage self-involvement ends with high school. Hiking is a very mature thing to do and its a very college student thing to do. After all, Hiking:
1. doesn't cost money
2. Can be very social
3. Keeps off the freshman 15
4. Gets you a tan
5. Makes you feel accomplished
6. Gets you away from the books and the pressure (literally if you go too high)
7. Makes you appreciate things like the sky and air (and being dust free)

So why not? I hiked for the first time with my friends in this way and it was fun and different and it did make me feel better than a day in the mall with the tweens and the food court. New trend?

The Job Hunt

If you are my age, which is newly 18, then you might be looking for a job and finding it difficult to get one. My job search hasn't been great. I signed up for several websites, but haven't had that much luck. Some of the more helpful sites are:

1.Post Your FREE Resume Today to attract top employers!
Monster is the best of the best, and an offer where you don't have to pay is golden.

2. Sittercity.com -if you like to babysit or be a nanny
3.Post Your Resume FREE to Job.com and receive a free resume evaluation and career consultation.
-- not my favorite, but has a lot of employers.
4.Now hiring elite grads. Join Doostang Today! www.Doostang.com
-- maybe one day when I am an elite grad.

See my problem?? its not easy. I have contacted one hiring mother on sittercity, but she apparently didn't like me much because I haven't heard back from her. I guess my best bet is to walk into one of the starbucks around here and ask for a job. Not good, pay, but when else am I going to learn the pain of corporations and no tips?

its kind of amazing. You would be better to aim for things that can't really let you down. Unless you are good with computers and know what to look for, don't bid on computers. But, if you are looking for some designer shoes and you want to find a cheap pair, then all you need is a picture because you can see at first glance what's up.

Senior Pranks

If you haven't already done your senior prank, it is coming up... Ours was pretty good this year, although I wasn't there to see it. I know that since I go to a private boarding school, our pranks are probably a little different from the general ones. A couple of years ago, the seniors led a cow up a tower at my school. The stairs were too narrow for him to turn around and cows apparently don't like going backwards. So, the school had to hire a crane to get him down. This was definitely the biggest hassle for the faculty of all pranks. Among others, there was the year that the seniors put all the furniture on the roof, stealing all the school silverware the year they hid thousands of alarm clocks all over school that went off at random times. I guess that's nothing compared to what the pranks are like in college especially if you go to Caltech or MIT. http://www.globalprovince.com/caltech.htm

Stop Motion down the Aisle

This is just going to be my list for things that I really want/need for next year dorming to get myself organized.
1. Shoe rack- last year i had a jumbled mess of heals, sneakers, flats and boots. One of my heels even got flattened. NO MORE
2. a Book shelf that supports all my books. My current one half way collapsed. NO GOOD
3. a caddy for all my shower things. I lost my previous one.
4. Still in need of those big coats...
5. money to afford all this and more... sigh*

now i am depressed, because although the thought of shopping makes me happy. a budget especially a very small to nonexistant one does not. So, i am doing some browsing that is free (for the time being) via Youtube... this video totally livened my spirits. and clothes without people> people without clothes. :)

Cheap Airline Seats For Students from STA

As I am a student, I love to take advantage of the student deals, just make sure the student deals don't take advantage of you. Sometimes, because young people don't know how to compare prices, they slap a sticker on something and call it discounted, when in reality its not. However, usually, you are pretty safe since student deals usually apply for the people who are most in debt, but will have money later on. They want your loyalty now so that you think of them with nostalgia when you are old and are booking your travel the world trip. I just got the sudden urge to ditch the US and travel through Europe with only a back pack this summer. I am frantically search for a flight now. Hostels are very cheap and usually are very good quality, but the best way to do it is to call up every connection you have over there and see if you and your friend can crash there. Make sure she does the same and if you are lucky you have a trip.

if you are the procrastinator master

http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html

you set the limits for yourself and if you go below them or if you stop working on your paper, your computer gets pissed off at you. bad music, ugly lights mad. Check it out. If it doesn't work, then it was just another thing you did while procrastinating.
